Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, given the following speech about the death of a City of Nelson police officer:

“It is with heartache today I have been informed Nelson Police Department’s Const. Mathieu Nolet has miserably succumbed to his injuries.

“My thoughts are with his family, colleagues and friends. The loss of both officers from a backcountry landslide incident is a tremendous loss for Nelson and we are here to support them as they circumnavigate through this hard time.

“I also want to express thanks the first responders and medical staff for their work responding to this catastrophic event. Our thoughts remain with the community through this time of grief-stricken.”
