To celebrate the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, a ceremony will be organized.

On the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian community in Prince George will commemorate the occasion with a celebration.

On Thursday, February 23, at 6 o’clock, it will take place in City Hall. On February 24, 2022, at 4 a.m. Kyiv time, the invasion will officially begin at this time.

The invasion prompted 8 million Ukrainians to leave their homes, creating the biggest flood of refugees since World War II.

In a war situation, it is impossible to calculate the number of casualties, although it is believed that hundreds of thousands of people perished.

At 6 o’clock in the evening, there will be a candlelight ceremony in memory of the dead, which will be followed by a minute of silence. At 6:03 p.m., the Ukrainian national anthem will be sung, and at 6:05 p.m., speeches will start. At 6:20 p.m., the event will come to an end.

The Mayor of Prince George, the Chief of the Forest Nations, members of the City Council, Members of Parliament, PG Share hope, Prince George for Ukraine, and all volunteers, journalists, supporters, members of the community of PG, and the Ukrainian community of Prince George are among the invited guests.

Prince George for Ukraine and Sharing Hope have assisted in relocating 192 displaced Ukrainians throughout our region since the invasion began.

There are currently 163 internally displaced Ukrainians living in Prince George. These are the people the organizations are aware of, though there might be more in the neighborhood who have not gotten in touch with Share Hope or Prince George for Ukraine.

More than 79 individuals who have expressed interest in attending are currently in communication with the organizations and are at various stages of readiness with regard to their documentation and travel plans. 31 people arrived in December, 5 more did so in January, and so far 21 have done so in February.

It is anticipated that the celebration on Thursday will be solemn, and participants are invited to bring their own candles to burn in honor of the invasion victims.
