Suspect originally detained in property crime investigation. A 32-year-old man suspected of being partly accountable for a jump in property crime in Fort St. James could also be facing drug-related charges.

In a declaration issued Wednesday, RCMP said a search following an arrest exposed what appeared to be cocaine and packaged in a manner consistent with drug trafficking.

The suspect was one of two people recognized and arrested following an uptick in break and enters and thefts from cars in the community 150 kilometres northwest of Prince George during the first few weeks of this month.

“We have seen that the crimes are being dedicated during early morning hours. It is significant to note that somebody, anonymously, returned some of the stolen belongings to the rightful owner and, in turn, may have info to help further our investigation. We would like to speak to that person,” Cpl. James Potyok added in a distinct statement also issued Wednesday.
