High streamflow advisories remain in result on the Fraser and Nechako Rivers, and their tributaries.

The Local District of Fraser-Fort George is urging residents to use caution around rivers and streams in the region.

High streamflow advisories are in effect on the Fraser and Nechako Rivers, and their tributaries, in the area.

“Water levels in the rivers and streams throughout the region are on the rise. Rivers and streams are naturally impulsive, but a sudden rise in water levels can create extra risks,” a statement released by the region district on Thursday said. “Rising waters can lead to unbalanced banks, an increase in wreckage in the water and fast flowing hints. The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George inspires people to exercise carefulness when nearing rivers and streams.”

People living near rivers and streams are recommended to take the following precautions:

  • Prepare individual emergency supply kits for your home, car and work (plan for at least a three-day supply of food and water for each family member).
  • Have a grab-and-go kit ready if you have to leave your home fast.
  • Keep imperative papers in watertight containers and have a record of your valuables in a safe place.
