Students from Foothills Elementary School will be on a planting frenzy tomorrow morning (Thursday).

1000 trees have been donated by Canfor for the students to plant as a part of the Exploration Place’s first GenAction project.

According to the museum, “GenAction is a nationwide initiative funded by the Government of Canada and led by the Canadian Connotation of Science Centres. In partnership with nearly 30 science centres across Canada, GenAction programming targets youth in grades K-12 with the objective of increasing their understanding of climate change science and inspiring them to get going.”

Exploration Place’s Assistant Curator – Original Content, Joshua Seymour, will be at the school to start the planting at 9:00am.

“We are excited to be involved in the GenAction initiative,” said  Seymour. “It gives us the chance to plant a seed and show kids that they can have the power to make an impact when it comes to climate change.”

Foothills are a small part of the population the Exploration Place serves, according to them they bring “locally relevant climate science programs to 1200 Local youth and 7500 K-12 youth in Northern British Columbia.”
